Job Overview:

The Transfer Center Specialist plays a vital role in the integrated healthcare team, working semi-independently under the direction of the Transfer Center nurse/nurse supervisor. This position is responsible for triaging calls, coordinating transfers, transportation, and dispatching Specialty Care Transport Unit (SCTU) units, as well as completing pre-registration and bed placement, and other aspects of transfer logistics.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Triage calls and coordinate transfers, transportation, and SCTU unit dispatch
  • Complete pre-registration and bed placement, and other transfer logistics tasks
  • Work with staff at client facilities to ensure timely access, appropriate bed assignment, and accurate patient information documentation
  • Communicate effectively with nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to facilitate patient transfers
  • Coordinate complex ground and air transport logistics and internal response teams for transfers
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory components, including EMTALA, Ethics and Compliance, quality initiatives, and HIPAA
  • Support system, facility, and department goals and objectives, mission, vision, and values through appropriate use of interpersonal skills and job performance
  • Participate in Quality Improvement processes to improve patient outcomes
Requirements:
  • High school diploma/GED
  • 2-3 years of experience in a healthcare office or hospital operations setting, and/or educational background
  • Medical terminology gained by either college credits or experience in a healthcare setting
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills, and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work under tight time constraints and meet deadlines while working on a variety of projects under high demands
  • Proficient technical ability to simultaneously manage multiple complex computer systems at a speed reflective of patient acuity needs
  • Proficient with commonly used office software and equipment, including Microsoft applications, hospital EMR, and bed placement software
  • Able to meet agent productivity standards as set by Transfer Center Leadership
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Expert level of Microsoft Office
  • Ability to accurately type at least 40 wpm
