ROLE DESCRIPTION

In this capacity, you will perform a wide range of testing protocols within the asphalt laboratory, including both standard and research assessments of various asphalt materials, adhering to the guidelines established by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation's Testing Methods (PTMs). Your role will be crucial in maintaining the established standards and objectives necessary for sustaining accreditations from the International Organization for Standardization/International Electrotechnical Commission 17025 and AASHTO resource.

Your duties will encompass preparing samples for examination, conducting tests in accordance with specified methodologies, and meticulously documenting the outcomes for diverse asphalt material types. This includes asphalt concrete pavement core samples, asphalt mixture samples, liquid asphalt binder samples, and emulsified asphalt samples, ensuring that all evaluations are executed accurately and in compliance with the relevant standards.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch break.
  • Salary: In certain instances, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as a Technical Assistant; or
  • One year of experience in the evaluation of materials utilized in highway, bridge, building, hydraulic, or similar construction projects, coupled with a high school diploma; or
  • An Associate's Degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related discipline; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Applicants will be deemed to have satisfied the educational prerequisites once they are within three months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.

Other Requirements:

  • Must meet the Pennsylvania residency requirement.
  • Must be capable of performing essential job functions.
