Mammography Technologist Job Description

The Mammography Technologist plays a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and imaging examinations at WMCHealth. This position requires a strong commitment to clinical competence and continuous quality improvement.

Responsibilities:
  • Effective Communication: Collaborate with interdepartmental teams through various channels, ensuring seamless communication and patient care.
  • Patient/Family/Significant Other Communication: Provide clear explanations of procedures, treatment, schedules, and costs to patients and their families.
  • Treatments and Procedures: Perform mammographic diagnosing procedures with precision and accuracy.
  • Maintenance and Records: Report equipment issues to the QC Technologist and/or Manager, and perform QC for the bone density machine as needed.
  • Patient Care: Deliver high-quality mammography examinations, selecting appropriate technical factors and adhering to departmental protocols.
  • Documentation: Accurately document patient care and equipment records, completing all clerical duties as directed.
  • Teaching and Professional Development: Participate in the education of departmental personnel on quality assurance and professional advancements.
  • Assistance with Mammotome Biopsies and Needle Localization: Collaborate with radiologists and surgeons in performing mammotome biopsies and/or needle localization of the breast.
Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Preferred Experience: One year of technical experience, preferably in mammography.
  • Education: Graduate of an AMA-approved school of Radiologic Technology program.
  • Licenses/Certifications: Registered by the A.R.R.T. in Radiologic Technology and Mammography, and a valid New York State Radiographic license from the Department of Health.
  • ARRT(M) Certification: Mandated by ACR accreditation, with a Mammography Registry (AART [M]) certification to be obtained within one year of hire date.
