Responsibilities- Develop and implement policies and procedures for school health programs
- Monitor compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations
- Initiate program changes as needed to ensure efficient management of resources
- Prepare health reports for supervisors, boards of education, and health departments
- Collaborate with other child-support agencies to design and provide school health programs
- Negotiate professional and medical services essential to the school health program
- Provide first aid care and medically prescribed services
- Maintain security of school health supplies
- Instruct students in health education according to state curriculum (K-12)
- Serve as a resource person on health issues
- Provide staff development on health-related topics for school staff and volunteers
- Screen and conduct health appraisals for students and staff
- Provide follow-up evaluations on students as required
- Recommend corrective action where problems are identified
- Conduct home visits when appropriate
- Correspond with parents on health needs of children
- Record immunizations, health findings, and other relevant health data
- Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license for the state in which the nurse practices
- Minimum 1 year of pediatric and/or school clinic experience
- Ability to identify abnormal growth and development and symptoms of disease
- Ability to coordinate and facilitate services between the school, local health agency, and other community resources
- Ability to develop and maintain health records on students and positive working relationships
