Neonatal Nurse Practitioner

The Nurse Practitioner-Xpand Role practices in a Magnet recognized tertiary academic Children's Hospital with Level One Pediatric Trauma Designation. This position requires collaboration with the supervising physician and performing overlapping medical/surgical procedures for specialty population of patients with critical acuity and/or participates in service coverage needs 24 hours per day 7 days per week.
Key Responsibilities- Provides age-specific and developmentally appropriate medical management and coordination of patient care consistent with their educational preparation and according to designated standardized procedures.
- Performs complete physical examinations, including ordering, interpreting and evaluating diagnostic tests and examinations.
- Documents subjective and objective data and care in the electronic medical record according to established policies and procedures.
- Keeps patient, family, and caregiver as applicable, informed regarding plan of care, e.g., hospital course, post-operative plan of care, expected outcomes, follow-up care.
- Encourages the patient, family and caregiver as applicable, to ask questions and be active participants in their care.
- Demonstrates a commitment to excellence and the exceeding of customer expectations by modeling behavior in the context of institutional values and the empowerment of professional governance of nursing practice.
- Serves as a preceptor for students and facilitates a meaningful learning experience.
- Represents nursing as an empowered profession that readily embraces new knowledge, innovations, and improvements in practice to enhance the patient experience and clinical outcomes.
- Supports and inspires the journey to nursing excellence to maintain Magnet Recognition as outlined by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
- Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of all applicable regulatory standards and ensures compliance with regulations and maintains survey-readiness at all times.
- Practices within the NP scope of practice pursuant to standardized procedures and follows policies, protocols, techniques, guidelines, standardized procedures and state and federal regulations.
- Master of Science Degree in Nursing or Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) and completion of NP curriculum required.
- Minimum three years of experience as a registered nurse in an acute care setting or in a sub-specialty clinic environment required.
- Minimum one year of experience in area of NP specialty preferred.
- Must have in-depth knowledge of advanced practice nursing, clinical pathways, research, evidenced-based practice, healthcare quality, patient safety, performance improvement, regulatory standards, medical staff structure, healthcare law and finance, peer review and legal aspects of care.
- Demonstrate excellence in bedside practice, manner and nursing professionalism.
- Apply theoretical concepts to clinical practice and continually expands knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in area(s) of specialty.
- Read; write legibly; communicate in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality.
- Use computer, printer and software programs necessary to the position, e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment.
- Perform technical patient care activities.
- Relate and communicate positively, effectively and professionally with others.
- Be assertive and consistent in following and enforcing policies.

- Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license and California Nurse Practitioner Certificate required (certification pending/in process acceptable).
- If hired after February, 2021, National certification required.
