Emergency Room Technician

We are seeking a dedicated part-time Emergency Room Technician to join our Emergency Department team. This role involves working 60 hours per pay period, with 12-hour shifts from 6:45 a.m. to 7:15 p.m. Eligible employees will receive full-time benefits, including IPERS, Health, Dental, Vision, Long Term Disability, and Life Insurance. Paid Time Off (PTO) and Sick Leave will begin to accrue from the first day of employment.
Position Title: Emergency Room Technician
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide assistance in the Emergency Room under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
- Communicate significant patient information to the nurse in charge.
- Collaborate effectively with other healthcare professionals.
- Ensure timely response to call lights.
- Deliver verbal reports to nursing staff at the conclusion of each shift.
- Assist in transferring patients using wheelchairs or carts to various departments.
- Support patients with mobility as required.
- Adhere to hospital and nursing service protocols.
- Participate in staff meetings and relevant educational sessions.
- Demonstrate flexibility in meeting staffing and scheduling needs.
- Maintain cleanliness and restock supplies in the Emergency Department.
- Perform clerical tasks such as answering phones and logging patient information.
- Assist in the physical movement of patients, including lifting and transferring.
- Support practitioners during minor surgical procedures and laceration repairs.
- Help with basic orthopedic procedures and the application of elastic bandages.
- Assist with triage and registration of emergency room patients, including vital sign checks and documentation in the electronic medical record.
- Provide inpatient care assistance when necessary and as permitted by ER census.
- Respond to ambulance calls during designated night shifts.
- Conduct Accu Checks in ambulances during night shifts.
- Perform additional duties as required within the scope of practice.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
Applicants must be capable of handling physical demands such as heavy lifting (45 lbs. and over), moderate lifting (15-44 lbs.), and light lifting (under 15 lbs.). The role requires standing, walking, bending, and other physical activities.
Work Environment:
The position is based in a well-lit, air-conditioned nursing unit with varying noise levels. There may be exposure to hazardous materials or treatment modalities.
Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent is required. Candidates must possess a current EMT license or have completed an approved nurse aide training course. BCLS certification is expected within three months of employment.

Maintaining a courteous and professional demeanor while interacting with patients, visitors, and colleagues is essential. Candidates should demonstrate a positive attitude towards work schedules and departmental changes.
