Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Assistant to join our Special Education team at Boone County Schools. This position plays a vital role in supporting the teacher and providing individualized instruction to students. As a Learning Assistant, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of students with special needs.

Job Summary

The Learning Assistant will work closely with the teacher to provide academic and behavioral support to students. This includes assisting with daily seat work, homework, and learning center activities. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, parents, and staff.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the teacher in setting up daily seat work and learning center activities
  • Check daily seatwork and homework
  • Use a variety of learning approaches to work one-on-one or in small groups with students in all academic areas
  • Operate equipment such as fluid duplicators, photocopiers, and projectors as needed
  • Make work materials and learning aids for the classroom
  • Write assignments and work on the chalkboard
  • Grade papers and prepare worksheets and tests
  • Carry out secretarial duties needed by the teacher, including maintenance of routine paperwork, filing, and documentation
  • Help administer testing and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Monitor IEP objectives and manage student behavior as directed by the teacher
  • Assist students who have been absent and attend regular classes as directed by the teacher
  • Perform other duties consistent with the position assigned as may be requested by the supervisor
Requirements
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. certificate
  • Experience working with children in an organized setting
  • Certification in American Red Cross/American Heart Association CPR and First Aid
  • Ability to read and follow written directions
  • Ability to lift and assist in moving children of various weights numerous times per day
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with students, parents, and staff

  • Hourly rate: $15.07-$20.72 (based on years of experience)
  • 6.5 hours per day, 32.5 hours per week, 180 days per year
