About the Role

VNS Health is seeking a highly skilled Substance Use Counselor to join our team of dedicated professionals. As a Substance Use Counselor, you will play a critical role in providing compassionate care and support to individuals struggling with substance use disorders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct phone and field outreach to locate and enroll clients in programs and services
  • Build relationships and trust with clients and their families, providing education and guidance on recovery-based services
  • Work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team to discuss care needs and identify solutions to support clients
  • Apply shared experiences to build relationships and trust with clients, empowering them to take a proactive role in their recovery process
  • Teach and model symptom management and coping skills for resilience, providing ongoing education and support
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of one year experience in a mental health, substance use treatment program, health care or human services setting, preferred
  • Experience working with severely mentally ill, psychological trauma, and/or substance using populations, preferred
  • Effective oral/written/interpersonal communication and relationship building skills required
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively on an interdisciplinary team
  • Computer literacy (electronic health records, word processing, e-mail, internet research, data entry), required
