The Outpatient Infusion Department/Pediatric Unit is dedicated to our Nursing Professional Practice Model; we prioritize nurturing relationships with our patients, families, community, and colleagues to deliver outstanding care. Our committed nursing team, nurse leaders, interdisciplinary collaborators, and physician partners operate within an eleven-bed inpatient unit that is integrated with a 24/7 outpatient infusion department. All care is administered by a highly-skilled staff utilizing the latest technology and equipment. The unit is dynamic, stimulating, and continuously evolving, as RNs provide care for patients ranging from ten days old to adulthood, administering infusion treatments such as blood products, specialty medications, chemotherapy, hydration, and antibiotics.

Qualifications:

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Diploma (Not HS) in Nursing

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
Registered Professional Nurse (RN) License in Illinois upon hire and National Nursing Certification within 3 years.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Complete all mandatory continuing education regarding the care of acute stroke patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute all responsibilities and duties specific to the unit's scope of service. Implement procedures and theories relevant to the specific area of practice. Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of nursing care provided to ensure the integration of information for the healthcare team.
  • Conduct initial assessments upon patient admission and develop suitable care plans in accordance with unit standards, tailored to patient and family needs. Implement care plans, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. Adjust care plans based on ongoing evaluations.
  • Ensure patient and employee safety by reporting and/or rectifying safety hazards and incidents.
  • Communicate effectively with others directly and privately when necessary to resolve issues. Provide constructive feedback to aid in the professional development of peers, and collaborate with colleagues to enhance knowledge. Identify personal learning needs and take initiative to pursue appropriate solutions.
  • Fulfill all departmental competency requirements.
  • Monitor intake and output for all pediatric patient assignments.
  • Change dressings, insert catheters, and initiate IVs.
  • Administer medications using proper barcode scanning protocols.
  • Notify the appropriate provider of high alert lab results.
  • Serve as a mandated reporter for all suspected abuse/neglect cases.
