Job Title: Chief of International Relations

The United Nations is seeking a highly qualified and experienced professional to serve as the Chief of International Relations. This role will be based in [location] and reports directly to the Assistant Secretary-General for Middle East, Asia and the Pacific.

The Chief of International Relations will be responsible for formulating and implementing the substantive annual work plan of the Division under their supervision, in accordance with Subprogramme 5 (Question of Palestine) of the biennial Strategic Framework. They will also manage all programmatic activities undertaken by the Division, coordinate the work of the Division with other entities of the United Nations system, and guide, supervise and coordinate the work of various sections of the Division.

This position requires a minimum of 15 years of progressively responsible experience in international relations, political affairs, conflict resolution, preventive diplomacy or peacebuilding. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of the Middle East region, particularly the question of Palestine, and excellent communication and coordination skills. The salary for this position is estimated to be around $**143,532** per annum, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Formulate and implement the substantive annual work plan of the Division under their supervision.
  • Manage all programmatic activities undertaken by the Division.
  • Coordinate the work of the Division with other entities of the United Nations system.
  • Guide, supervise and coordinate the work of various sections of the Division.


Requirements:
  • Masters degree in political sciences, business or public administration, international relations, international law, social sciences or related area.
  • A minimum of 15 years of progressively responsible experience in international relations, political affairs, conflict resolution, preventive diplomacy or peacebuilding.
  • Deep understanding of the Middle East region, particularly the question of Palestine.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills.
