GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Clerk IV is responsible for performing essential receptionist and clerical functions within the department.
This role serves as the primary communication hub for departmental processes.

Maintains and organizes documentation related to patient care and medical record supplies, while also distributing correspondence and information to staff, physicians, and patients.

Transcribes patient and unit information both manually and electronically.
Directs written and verbal communications to the appropriate personnel.
Handles copying tasks for staff and physicians. Answers incoming calls and manages the call system.
Ensures the timely, accurate, and clear transfer of communications, including physician orders.
Fosters and maintains a harmonious, customer-friendly environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Skills Required:

  • Must successfully complete the Medical Terminology Exam if lacking prior Unit Clerk experience.
  • High school diploma with the ability to read, write, and understand medical terminology, alongside a commitment to effective communication.
  • Prior experience in a clerical or receptionist role is preferred; experience in a healthcare setting or completion of a training program is advantageous.
  • Capable of executing detailed tasks, managing pressure, and interacting effectively with patients, hospital staff, physicians, and visitors.
Demonstrates the ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities efficiently.

  • Proficient in using appropriate language for telephone communications.
  • Able to utilize computer skills following necessary training on the hospital's information system.
  • Meets pre-employment screening and physical examination requirements.
  • Ability to work independently in high-stress situations while managing multiple interruptions calmly and positively.


As applicable, the individual has received training and demonstrated competency in addressing the unique needs and behaviors relevant to the age of the patients receiving care.
