Job Title: Senior Associate Athletics Director of Strategic Communications

Job Summary:

The Senior Associate Athletics Director of Strategic Communications is a key member of the Athletics Department's leadership team, responsible for developing and executing comprehensive communication strategies to promote Utah State Athletics and its programs. This position oversees all aspects of communication, including media relations, social media, and internal communications, to ensure a consistent and compelling brand message.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a strategic communications plan to promote Utah State Athletics and its programs.
  • Manage media relations, including pitching stories, coordinating press conferences, and responding to media inquiries.
  • Oversee social media strategy and content creation to engage with fans, alumni, and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the Athletics Department's marketing and fan engagement teams to develop and execute promotional campaigns.
  • Provide media training and coaching to coaches, student-athletes, and staff to ensure effective communication with the media.
  • Ensure compliance with NCAA and Mountain West Conference regulations and policies.
  • Supervise a team of athletic communication specialists.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, or related field, plus six years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in generating creative content and implementing a content strategy at the Division I level.
  • Experience working with members of the media and pitching stories.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Flexibility to work a non-traditional work schedule due to the high volume/sport season schedules.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree.
  • Experience in social media management and content creation.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods.
  • Demonstrated competencies and experience with desktop publishing and writing and creating content on deadline.
  • Proficiency in using a variety of programs within the Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Knowledge of social media best practices and emerging platforms.
  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.

Working Conditions:

Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes. The employee is regularly required to sit and often uses repetitive hand motions.
