About Sandy Spring Friends School: Established in 1961, Sandy Spring Friends School is a Quaker, coeducational institution that offers a rigorous academic environment for approximately 620 students ranging from early childhood through 12th grade. Position Overview: Sandy Spring Friends School is in search of a passionate and skilled individual to join our Athletic Department as a Physical Education Instructor. This role involves direct reporting to the Director of Athletics. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in developing and delivering Physical Education curricula, along with a comprehensive understanding of evidence-based teaching methodologies in the field.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging Physical Education classes for students in grades PK-8.
  • Design, plan, and execute lesson plans that align with SHAPE America standards.
  • Set clear learning objectives for all lessons and effectively communicate these to students.
  • Organize and conduct a variety of instructional activities, demonstrations, and practical work sessions.
  • Maintain accurate student records in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Prepare the classroom, gymnasium, and outdoor areas for instructional activities and games.
  • Monitor, assess, and evaluate student progress, and engage with parents/guardians regarding student development.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Physical Education or Exercise Science is required.
  • Experience with SHAPE Standards curriculum and a minimum of three years of teaching experience in a classroom setting.
  • Proficiency in current literature and best practices related to Physical Education, with demonstrated ability to incorporate technology into the curriculum.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively engage with students and parents.
  • A commitment to diversity, a passion for ongoing professional development, and adaptability to new initiatives are essential qualities we seek.
  • Familiarity with Quaker beliefs and practices is a plus, though not mandatory.

Physical Requirements: The role involves daily desk work, including time spent on the phone and computer, as well as mobility throughout the campus. This includes frequent physical activity both indoors and outdoors, navigating stairs and the campus landscape as part of daily responsibilities.
