Job Summary

Hight Construction is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Estimator to join our team. As a key member of our estimating department, you will be responsible for providing accurate and detailed cost estimates for a variety of commercial construction projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Pre-Bid Meetings and Plan Analysis: Attend pre-bid meetings and interpret/analyze construction plans to ensure accurate estimates.
  • Quantity Surveys and Cost Analysis: Provide quantity surveys from which to determine material and labor costs, and develop comprehensive budgets and conceptual estimates when needed.
  • Material and Labor Research: Conduct thorough research to obtain accurate pricing for materials, labor, and subcontractor services.
  • Cost Estimate Preparation: Prepare detailed cost estimates, including line-item breakdowns, for all aspects of the construction project.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with project managers, architects, and other stakeholders to refine and finalize cost estimates, and identify potential cost-saving opportunities and provide recommendations to improve project profitability.
  • Database Maintenance: Maintain a comprehensive database of historical cost data and industry trends to enhance the accuracy of future estimates.
  • Bid Preparation and Support: Assist in the preparation of bids and proposals, ensuring they are competitive and aligned with the project requirements, and provide support and guidance to junior estimators, sharing your expertise and mentoring them as needed.
  • Market Research and Opportunity Identification: Proactively identify and vet potential bid opportunities, particularly in the public sector, by closely monitoring construction project announcements, bid lists, and other public sources to stay informed about upcoming projects that align with Hight Construction capabilities and expertise.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum 8-10 years of experience as a Construction Estimator, with a proven track record of successful projects.
  • Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and mitigate potential cost risks, strong mathematical and budgeting skills, with a keen eye for detail, and proficiency in using construction estimating software and spreadsheet applications.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, and familiarity with local building codes, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Additional Requirements: Must have a valid driver's license, and some minor travel may be required.
