Archaeological Manager 1 Job Description

GAI Consultants, Inc. is seeking an experienced Archaeological Manager 1 to lead our cultural resources team in the southwestern United States. As a key member of our team, you will provide expertise in cultural resources management services, including archaeological investigations, records reviews, and data recoveries.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Direct and supervise GAI personnel and sub-consultants on cultural resources projects.
  • Provide guidance and support to internal staff, clients, and regulatory agencies on cultural resource issues.
  • Develop and implement solutions to regulatory situations related to the National Historic Preservation Act.
  • Identify and communicate potential project constraints during project planning phases.
  • Serve as a primary interface between GAI and regulatory agencies, Tribal interests, and other stakeholders.
  • Assist in the integration of GAI's cultural resource staff and sub-consultants into project teams.
  • Work with project managers and directors to develop proposals, manage budgets, and ensure project schedules are met.
  • Travel up to 50% of the time to project locations, including extended and overnight stays.
  • Work flexible hours and overtime to accommodate projects and clients in multiple time zones.
  • Develop and present technical papers at conferences and in journals to maintain current knowledge in technical areas.
Requirements:
  • Master's degree in archaeology or a related field, with a minimum of 12 years of relevant experience in cultural resource management.
  • Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA) certification.
  • Understanding of federal and state cultural resource laws and regulations, including the National Historic Preservation Act and the Archaeological Resources Protection Act.
  • Knowledge and expertise in archaeological issues and methodologies in the southwestern United States.
  • Leadership skills with direct supervisory experience.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work for oneself, GAI staff, and sub-consultants.
