Nutritional Meal Preparation Specialist

The Nutritional Meal Preparation Specialist is tasked with the cooking and serving of meals for residents, adhering to proper food safety protocols. Meals are to be crafted in accordance with the established menu and recipes maintained within the culinary department. It is essential for dietary staff to uphold stringent cleanliness and sanitation standards to avert foodborne illnesses.
EDUCATION:
Ability to read, write, and follow both oral and written instructions is required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous experience in culinary services is preferred but not mandatory (six months).
- On-the-job training will be provided under supervision, with a requirement to demonstrate the ability to perform all dietary tasks.
- Understanding of quality food preparation and service is essential.
- Familiarity with food service equipment and cleaning tools is beneficial.
- A willingness to learn, cooperate, and work under guidance is necessary.
- Compliance with all company policies and timely task execution is expected.
- Availability to work scheduled shifts, including weekends and holidays, is required.
- A pre-employment and annual Tuberculosis screening is mandatory.
- Possession of a valid health certificate as mandated by local, state, and federal health authorities is required.
- Follow the directives of the Dietary Supervisor, Administrator, or Director of Nursing.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in the Dietary area.
- Exhibit a genuine interest in serving the elderly population.
- Perform routine and repetitive tasks consistently, maintaining communication with team members.
- Execute tasks with consideration for residents in adjacent areas.
- Utilize initiative and judgment to keep assigned areas orderly.
- Handle and clean dirty dishes, trays, utensils, and equipment as required.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues and supervisors.
- Prepare meals according to the approved menus and recipes.
- Organize tray assembly and meal delivery.
- Report any equipment issues to the Dietary Supervisor.
- Keep accurate records of food and supplies utilized, submitting them to the Dietary Supervisor.
- Communicate needs and suggestions for departmental improvements to the Dietary Supervisor.
- Participate in scheduled in-service training programs.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Dietary Supervisor or facility Administrator.
Job requires a full range of motion, including:
1. Standing/Walking: Frequently.
- Most duties require being on feet throughout the day.
- Required for tasks such as retrieving and storing food items.
- Involves lifting food items and equipment, typically weighing between 1 to 50 pounds.
- Includes transporting large cans, boxes, and various equipment.
- Necessary for maneuvering food carts and loading/unloading dishwashers.
- Required when carrying heavy items.
- Involves lifting and bending during meal preparation and cleaning tasks.
- May be needed throughout the workday.
10. Reaching:
- Greater than shoulder height: Frequently.
- Equal to shoulder height: Frequently.
- Less than shoulder height: Frequently.
- Speed and coordination are critical in dietary services.
- Effective communication with co-workers, residents, and visitors is essential.
Work is required throughout various nursing areas of the facility, with potential exposure to communicable diseases and medical substances.
