Clinical Laboratory Technologist III

Under the direction of a manager or supervisor, the Clinical Laboratory Technologist III will work in the core laboratory, performing various tasks related to laboratory operations, patient safety, and optimal patient care.
Key Responsibilities- Follow laboratory pre-analytic and analytic procedures, maintaining records of tests and ensuring test system performance.
- Adhere to quality assurance procedures, documenting all quality control activities, instrument and equipment verifications, maintenance, and preventive maintenance.
- Identify and document problems that may adversely affect test performance, notifying supervisors and documenting corrective actions.
- Ensure test results are not reported until corrective action has been taken and the test is performing according to laboratory established performance specifications.
- Follow standard precautions, laboratory safety/infection control protocols, and use appropriate PPE.
- Receive, handle, and label specimens, ensuring integrity, transcribing requisitions/orders if required, printing labels, separating and prioritizing specimens for analysis, distribution to other sections, reference laboratories, sending out, preservation, and storage.
- Review test results daily for accuracy and reliability, accurately documenting in the Laboratory Information System, communicating and documenting critical laboratory values to providers, and escalating when necessary.
- Ensure data integrity, generating, transforming, maintaining, and assuring accuracy, completeness, and consistency of data for specimens, including all information collected and data generated to produce a test result.
- Engage in Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement programs, staying knowledgeable about laboratory technology developments, and maintaining a minimum of 12 hours of continuing education annually.
- Comply with patient confidentiality, safety, privacy, and HIPAA rules, maintaining an environment of care standards, working on laboratory goals to prioritize patient safety and responding to inquiries courteously, accurately, and in a timely manner.
- Valid license as a clinical laboratory technologist issued by the NYSED.
- One year of full-time paid experience as a technologist performing pertinent tests and analyses in a clinical laboratory as defined in Title V, Section 57 1 of the New York State Public Health Law.
