Support Assistant

About the Position
This role offers a unique opportunity to work closely with students in a general education classroom, providing them with the support they need to gain full benefit from the District's special education program.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate instructional efforts with classroom teachers to ensure effective student support.
- Prepare lesson materials, displays, and equipment as needed to enhance the learning environment.
- Present subject matter to students under the direction of teachers, using various methods to engage and educate.
- Establish a supportive relationship with students while maintaining professional boundaries.
- Serve as a resource person for the student personnel evaluation team, providing valuable insights and expertise.
- Supervise students in various settings, including classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, school yards, and gymnasiums.
- Conduct demonstrations to teach skills such as sports, dancing, and handicrafts.
- Distribute teaching materials, tests, and homework assignments, and collect completed work.
- Enforce administration policies and rules governing students.
- Grade homework and tests, computing and recording results.
- Complete required reports in a timely manner.
- Teach socially acceptable behavior, employing techniques like behavior modification and positive reinforcement.
- Work with students having multiple physical, mental, and developmental disabilities.
- Use adaptive equipment, including communication tools, wheelchairs, and feeding aids.
- Assist students with self-care, hygiene, and feeding as necessary.
- Perform tasks that students cannot do, such as taking notes or handling materials.
- May work with/handle resistive students.
- Serve as the chief source of information and help to substitute teachers.
- Maintain confidentiality and exhibit high ethical behavior.
Qualifications
- Holding a registered license with the Regional Office of Education #17 at the time of hire is mandatory.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential for working with teachers, administrators, and the public.
- The ability to enforce school regulations and policies professionally is crucial.
- Maintaining good working relationships with fellow employees and pupils is vital.
- Lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. may be required.
- Ability to push/pull up to 10 lbs. is necessary.
- Detailed orientation is essential.
Certification
An educator license with stipulations endorsed for paraprofessional educator or professional educator license is required at the time of hire.
Compensation
The estimated salary range for this position is $18.54 - $20.76 per hour, based on experience and location. The compensation package includes fully paid medical, dental, and vision benefits.
