Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant

At Constructive Partnerships Unlimited, we are seeking a skilled Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant to join our team of professionals in our Queens Community Living Program.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in occupational therapy and be able to implement prescribed treatment programs that have been selected and delegated by the supervising Occupational Therapist.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Reviews medical records and verifies MD orders and occupational therapists' assessments prior to implementing OT treatment.
  • Maintains active/up to date MD prescriptions as outlined by NYS Department of Health (DOH) and Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) depending upon work assignment.
  • Communicates with supervisor regarding persons receiving services in the areas of cognitive/perceptual skills, sensor-motor, musculoskeletal status, CNS status, the use of assistive technology and adaptive equipment needs.
  • Confers with physician and other health care practitioners to obtain additional information on persons receiving services.
  • Integrates input from persons receiving services, family, and direct care staff in treatment.
  • Writes specific, objective, and measurable documentation, which is outcome-oriented and details the persons receiving services' needs, potential to benefit from treatment, and progress achieved to date.
  • Provides training to persons receiving services, families, and/or direct care staff in specific supportive programs.
  • Participates and attends care plan/team meetings as needed for persons receiving OT services.
  • Implements a treatment plan, generated by the OT, which may include ROM, therapeutic exercise, cognitive/perceptual re-training, ADL, wheelchair mobility, pre-vocational skills, and application of physical agent modalities.

Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited occupational therapy assistant school; New York State license.
  • Knowledge in the use of adaptive equipment, therapeutic activities.
  • Must have good written-verbal communication skills and proficient with Microsoft Word.
