Mechanic - Fleet Maintenance Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanic to join our team at the Norwalk Transit District. As a Mechanic, you will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of our fleet of diesel and gas powered vehicles, including buses, body-on-chassis vehicles, and support vehicles.
Key Responsibilities- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on vehicles and equipment, including oil changes, tire rotations, and brake pad replacements.
- Conduct preventative maintenance inspections on vehicles and equipment to identify potential issues before they become major problems.
- Diagnose and repair complex mechanical issues with vehicles and equipment, including engine and transmission problems.
- Maintain accurate records of vehicle maintenance and repairs, including repair orders and inspection forms.
- Respond to road calls and vehicle breakdowns in a timely and efficient manner.
- Collaborate with other maintenance personnel to ensure that all vehicles and equipment are properly maintained and repaired.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest technical and mechanical developments in the field of heavy duty diesel vehicles.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical and/or diesel trade school preferred.
- At least five years of experience in heavy duty diesel vehicle maintenance and repair.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read and follow manuals and diagnostic equipment.
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required within 30 days of hiring.
The working environment is generally favorable, with adequate lighting and temperature. The position requires frequent interaction with employees and customers, and the ability to lift and move objects up to 75 pounds.
