Job Summary

The City of New York is seeking a highly skilled Water Use Inspector II to join our team. As a key member of our Department of Environmental Protection, you will be responsible for directing moderate-sized Borough/location-wide Water Use Inspection Programs, supervising inspectors, and enforcing rules and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct and supervise Water Use Inspection Programs, including assigning and evaluating the work of inspectors
  • Prepare in-service training programs and plan and direct special programs and surveys
  • Interpret and enforce Department rules and regulations
  • Utilize DCU and MTU systems to troubleshoot issues and assign tasks to field staff
  • Survey locations for meter installation or replacement and respond to customer complaints
  • Review and evaluate staff work to ensure accuracy and quantity meet requirements
  • Assist with testing new equipment and material, and review submissions pertaining to water sales and use
  • Prepare and review reports, and make special inspections as required
Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must have three years of satisfactory full-time mechanical experience in plumbing or water use inspection, with one year in a supervisory capacity. Alternatively, you may have education and/or experience equivalent to the above.

This position is also open to qualified individuals with a disability who are eligible for the 55-a Program. New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment, but City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
