About the Position

This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires a high level of technical expertise and attention to detail. As a Technician (Small Engine and Equipment Repair Specialist) with Jeffco Public Schools, you will be responsible for the repair, maintenance, and upkeep of all District-owned custodial, maintenance, and landscape equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform diagnostic testing and repair, rebuild, or overhaul components of the District's air cooled gasoline engines and associated equipment.
  • Prepare and submit completed service orders, including parts, labor hours, and description of repairs in the District's inventory control and work order software.
  • Facilitate and provide timely and appropriate communication with schools and departments in the evaluation, prioritization, and processing of work orders.
  • Maintain assigned work order tickets by providing notes and closing resolved tickets in a timely manner.
  • Follow county procedures to order materials and parts from vendors to achieve discounts or low-cost alternatives.
  • Utilize welding equipment to design and fabricate parts and repair equipment.
  • Read and interpret schematics and electrical diagrams, microfiche, and manuals for repairing equipment.
  • Perform housekeeping functions to maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  • Train and instruct District employees in safe operation of supported equipment.
  • Deliver equipment to district-wide sites and third-party vendors.
  • Inventory all District equipment and maintain the interior and exterior cleanliness of the District vehicle.
Requirements
  • High school diploma/GED required, plus post-secondary courses in mechanics, welding, and electronics.
  • 4 years of experience in the repair and maintenance of small air cooled gasoline engines, with one year of experience in repair and maintenance of electric powered equipment preferred.
  • Applicable vocational school experience is given half-time credit (2 years of school equals one year of experience).
  • Valid Colorado driver's license and Small Engines Repair Certificate preferred at hire but required within 12 months after hire.

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent deadlines and changing priorities. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
