Position Overview
Proto is at the forefront of advancing the global shift towards an open economy by developing products that enhance accessibility and independence for all.

Our current initiative includes the creation of Bitkey, a user-friendly and secure self-custody bitcoin wallet designed to empower customers. Additionally, we are innovating hardware and software solutions to decentralize bitcoin mining and explore new applications within this space.

Within Proto, our Bitcoin Products team is responsible for the product strategy, software development, firmware integration, and custom silicon design necessary to bring Bitkey and our ambitious mining projects to fruition.

Key Responsibilities
As a member of our team, you will:

  • Design electrical circuits and systems for Block's Bitcoin hardware products.
  • Collaborate with firmware, mechanical, and factory testing engineers to develop cohesive and effective solutions.
  • Occasionally travel (10-20%) to support manufacturing processes.

Qualifications
We are looking for candidates who possess:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as an electrical engineer in embedded systems.
  • Proven experience in designing and delivering products.
  • Expertise in hardware laboratories, including testing, measurement, and prototyping.
  • Strong skills in schematic development and PCB layout leadership.
  • Familiarity with standard communication protocols such as SPI, USB, I2C, and RS232.
  • Hands-on experience with EMC design and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of power management and optimization techniques.
  • Extensive experience working on-site with contract manufacturers.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
  • Experience with electrical simulation tools (e.g., SPICE, electromagnetic simulations).

Preferred Qualifications
Additional skills that would be advantageous include:

  • Familiarity with Altium Designer.
  • Experience in board-level analog design.
  • Knowledge of high-power systems (> 1kW).
  • Experience in thermal management.
  • Proficiency in embedded firmware development using C.
  • Ability to automate laboratory instruments using Python.
