Nursing Program Specialist

This is a Nursing Program Specialist position performing independent, countywide school health nursing work for the School Health Program. Work is performed under the supervision of the Senior Community Health Nursing Supervisor. This position requires independent judgment, initiative, applying general knowledge of business practices and skill in applying instructions to accomplish various job functions. Independently organizes, implements and conducts the nursing component of the program. Assist others in ensuring duties are performed in accordance with applicable rules, statutes and policies.
This position is designated as a sensitive position and is required to maintain confidential information in accordance with the Florida Department of Health (FDOH) Palm Beach County Health Department (CHD) Information Security Policy, Protocols and Procedures. Confidential data set(s): School Medical Records, Clinical, and Social Security Data. This position may view, update or release information, school nursing/medical records, clinical information and social security data. This position has access to the FL Shots System to review, update and/or enter immunizations. System access also includes Health Management System (HMS) for Employee Activity Report (EARs) for data entry, the School District's student information system and student electronic health records for documentation.
Provide to charter school students nursing services including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementing and evaluation of Individualized Health Care Plans per Florida Board of Nursing guidelines.
Coordinate and conduct medication administration and child-specific training to Charter School staff and evaluate further need for child-specific training. Ensure charter school administrator address day-to-day student health needs, emergency health needs and in-school management of chronic and acute health conditions. Provide ongoing support to Charter School staff to assist in meeting goals and state mandates. Instruct charter school staff on data collection of health services.
Responsible to compile and submit the charter school health services report to the School Health Coordinator in conjunction with the Senior Community Health Nurse Supervisor.
Assist in scheduling, and performing State Mandated Health Screenings in the Charter Schools countywide while ensuring screenings are completed according to State Guidelines. Serve as a resource to Charter School Staff who complete their own health screenings. Compile and submit health screening reports according to established state and county guidelines and timeframes.
Participates in in-service, trainings, orientation programs, and special projects as required.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

The ability to retrieve, interpret, and disseminate health information data
The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
The skill and ability to use a personal computer, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint applications
Qualifications:
This occupation requires licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in accordance with Chapter 464, Florida Statutes and in accordance with Rule 64B9, Florida Administrative Code.
Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
Valid Driver's License
Required to work on the FDOH State Holiday (Veteran's Day) when the students are in session.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 30lbs.
Maintain current CPR/AED certification through nationally recognized certifying agency (inclusive of return demonstration)
Working Hours:
This is a full-time career service position working 40 hours per week for 10 months. However, this position will not work during the summer for 6 consecutive weeks in June and July, 2 weeks in December and January during school winter break schedule. If incumbent is available during this off-work schedule, may work upon request of Community Health Nursing Consultant as program support is needed. Hours may need to conform to school hours (30 minute lunch) (D) Variation in scheduled hours upon supervisor approval.
