Job Summary and Responsibilities

The Information Technology Manager I (Network Security) at the Department of Finance is responsible for managing the department's enterprise network and security infrastructure and projects. This includes overseeing a team of Information Technology Specialists on various cloud and on-premise security technologies for Microsoft O365 Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), Microsoft Azure Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), and Microsoft Azure Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) environments, as well as the department's on-premise network infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee a team of Information Technology Specialists on cloud and on-premise security technologies.
  • Develop and implement network and security processes and procedures.
  • Demonstrate excellent project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Discern and execute California Department of Technology and Department of General Services key policies, such as The Statewide Information Management Manual (SIMM) and The State Administrative Manual (SAM).
  • Advise and communicate effectively to executive management and co-management team.
  • Mentor and motivate staff, and maintain a cooperative working relationship with management, team members, and business customers.

Requirements and Qualifications

Strong organizational, analytical, and verbal/written communication skills are required. The incumbent must be able to work independently and in a team environment, participate in meetings, provide status reports, and complete work assignments. The ability to delegate and assign tasks and projects and stay up-to-date with Information Technology trends, standards, and practices related to cloud computing technology and security is also essential.

Special Requirements

The Department of Finance operates under a hybrid telework model, which requires employees to work in the office for a minimum of two days during the workweek. The hybrid policy is subject to change, and additional in-office days may be required at management's discretion or based on operational needs.
