About the Role

The Construction Project Manager is a key member of our Building Technology & Solutions team at Johnson Controls International. This role is responsible for leading mechanical construction projects in the North Suburban, Illinois area that are typically $1M or larger.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead project teams to ensure profitable execution of assigned equipment complex projects.
  • Work with sales managers and installation managers to provide sales support activities early in the TAS and development process.
  • Ensure projects are completed accurately, on-time, billed, within budget, and within scope of the contract.
  • Maintain positive cash flow and actively pursue selling change orders.
  • Ensure work performed complies with state, local, and Federal legal requirements and operates with the highest ethics.
  • Adhere to and ensure Johnson Controls staff and subcontractors adhere to all safety standards.
  • Responsible for following consistent and repeatable project management procedures and processes.
  • Maintain an effective balance between customer satisfaction and project financial results.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in construction, civil, mechanical, electrical engineering, construction management, or architecture, or an associate's degree with equivalent work-related experience.
  • Expectation that PMI/PMP certification will be obtained within 2 years of employment in the position.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical material to a non-technical audience.
  • Travel will vary on project assignment, and projects may exist outside of assigned geography.
  • Proficient in project management software and financial accounting systems.
  • Strong personal computer working capabilities in MS Office, Adobe Writer, Visio, and basic Windows environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of five years of direct project management experience in the building construction industry.
  • Management experience with projects related to mechanical retrofits, HVAC controls, BAS management, fire management, and security management systems is desired.
  • Will consider strong service technician and pipe fitter project leads.
