Drafting Technician Job Description

Knife River Northwest is seeking a skilled Drafting Technician to join our Prestress Division. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful execution of our projects.

Responsibilities:
  • Review and understand contract plans and specifications to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Develop submittal and production drawings using AutoCAD and/or 3D BIM Software to meet project requirements.
  • Prepare material orders and maintain department standards to ensure consistency and quality.
  • Perform quality control reviews on internal and external drawings to ensure compliance with company standards.
  • Manage communication and planning between external design consultants and internal Project Managers to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Work closely with Engineering Staff, Sales, Operations, and Quality Control to ensure products are built according to design specifications.
  • Assure all safety policies and procedures are followed to prevent any and all unsafe actions, processes, and behaviors observed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the team and ensure project success.
Requirements:
  • Two-year Associate degree in Drafting and/or equivalent work experience.
  • AutoCAD 2018 or higher experience preferred; 3D Modeling skills (Revit, Inventor) are a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret sketches, construction plans (Architectural, Structural, Civil, MEP), and possess basic mathematical skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, proficiency in Software (Excel, Word, Outlook, Bluebeam, etc.), and self-starter mentality.
  • Attention to detail, ability to organize and prioritize tasks, and display a professional and courteous attitude towards all team members.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficient in BIM Software (REVIT or Tekla Structures).
  • Structural or Manufacturing-based drafting experience.
  • Ability to lead other drafting technicians and develop drafting standards.
