About You and This Role –

UNION CARBIDE CORPORATION's Process Automation Technology Center is in search of a driven Process Automation Engineer. This position will be pivotal in supporting our operations.

This role is part of a dynamic, expanding team focused on delivering cutting-edge and sustainable automation solutions for one of our most lucrative sectors. We are at the forefront of evolving our facilities into the manufacturing hubs of the future and are eager for expertise and knowledge to continue this journey. Our production facilities create advanced products utilized in various everyday applications, including packaging and construction materials. Alongside enhancing our product technology, we are committed to achieving carbon neutrality and promoting a circular economy for materials. Our goal is to continuously refine our offerings to improve daily life while ensuring environmentally sustainable practices.

We are seeking a Process Automation Engineer who is enthusiastic about engaging in both local and global initiatives. As a seasoned team member, your role will be crucial in advancing our strategy for designing and implementing comprehensive automated control systems.

Responsibilities –

  • Assist in the daily operations of our facilities, enhancing process automation performance through improvement initiatives, alarm management, control loop optimization, and change management implementation.
  • Develop control applications for various distributed control systems and create simulation applications to validate control program functionality and train operators.
  • Design, test, and commission Process Automation software and operator interface applications to meet established design specifications.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to design and execute projects, applying established methodologies and process automation disciplines.
  • Drive project execution within your area of expertise, ensuring project scope aligns with business requirements in a cost-effective manner. Participate in project commissioning and startup activities, including control loop tuning.
  • Acquire foundational knowledge of unit operations and chemical engineering principles.
  • Act as a global project team member, developing and delivering Process Automation strategies and control code based on plant knowledge and work-process discipline.
  • Engage regularly with cross-functional and international teams, utilizing negotiation skills to achieve mutually beneficial solutions and effectively resolve conflicts.

Qualifications –

  • A minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or a related field is required.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% annually (domestic and/or international).
  • Candidates must have the legal right to work in the United States.

Preferred Skills –

  • Familiarity with one or more process control platforms (e.g., ABB, Siemens, Emerson).
  • Experience with polyethylene or catalyst technologies.

  • Strong organizational skills and capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Problem-solving abilities combined with a solid technical foundation.
  • Proven communication skills to effectively convey ideas across all levels of the organization.
