Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Core Laboratory Lead to join our team at the University of Arizona Cancer Center. As a key member of our Flow Cytometry and Immune Monitoring Shared Resource, you will be responsible for leading the daily operations of the laboratory, providing technical and scientific expertise, and supporting research studies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lab Management: Oversee quality control, safety, and confidentiality programs, ensuring compliance with UA and HIPAA regulations.
  • Research Support: Develop and implement research lab policies and daily SOPs, operate and maintain equipment, and manage purchasing and maintenance of lab supplies.
  • Training and Development: Ensure laboratory personnel maintain current knowledge of laboratory techniques and procedures, manage schedules on shared equipment, and provide training to others as needed.
  • Equipment Support: Provide technical expertise to the operation of complex scientific equipment, maintain and calibrate equipment, and troubleshoot performance issues.
  • Assay Development and Execution: Follow, revise, and author facility SOPs, establish best practices, and optimize assays to improve facility products and services.
  • Bio-specimen Processing and Bio-banking: Coordinate sample collections, communicate with the Clinical Trials Office, and process human material for immune profiling analysis or bio-banking.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Skills: Strong organizational and communication skills, fluency with record keeping, data acquisition, and report generation, and ability to quickly adapt priorities based on facility needs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in immunology or biological sciences.
  • Experience: 5 years of experience working in a CORE facility, experience in Cancer Immunology/Immune Profiling or complex molecular biology techniques, and experience with multicolor flow cytometry.
  • Skills: Proven project development and execution, experience with project management, and experience with academic research.
