About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Human Factors Engineer to join our team at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). As a Human Factors Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing and operationalizing advanced and autonomous solutions to revolutionize healthcare and socio-technical systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research and systems development to support the design and evaluation of human-machine systems
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and address human performance challenges
  • Apply User-Centered Design (UCD), User Experience (UX), and User Interface (UI) design principles to develop prototypes and solutions
  • Analyze and assess human system design and development, including requirements analysis, task design/redesign, use case development, and workload modeling
  • Lead and participate in multi-organization and multi-disciplinary working groups to review test results and coordinate analyses
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, human factors engineering, human systems integration, computer science, or a related field
  • 6+ years of relevant experience with demonstrated proficiency in requirements analysis and development, experimental design, human performance measurement, and system evaluation
  • Experience with UCD, UX, and UI design
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by start date and ultimately obtain a Secret level clearance
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's or Ph.D. in psychology, human factors engineering, human systems integration, computer science, or a related field
  • 8+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience operating or leading a human performance laboratory with physiological measurement capabilities
  • Demonstrable experience with health, government, and/or military systems
