Burns & McDonnell is on the lookout for a Lead Civil Engineering Specialist to join our esteemed Environmental Services Engineering team.

Within our Environmental Services Practice, the candidate will have the chance to spearhead or assist in a diverse array of civil engineering initiatives, which may encompass stormwater management, hydraulic assessments, solid waste management, remediation efforts, sustainable practices, and the design of environmental systems such as containment liners and water quality/treatment systems, as well as site development for various facilities.

This position provides the flexibility to specialize in specific technical domains or engage in a broad spectrum of technical areas, manage projects, and collaborate with clients.

Our team maintains long-term client relationships, seeks new civil and environmental projects, and offers support to other departments with civil and environmental engineering services.

Additionally, we collaborate closely with in-house construction professionals on design-build and engineer-procure-and-construct (EPC) projects.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop environmental systems and facilities.
  • Lead or assist in civil or environmental projects or tasks, including earthwork/grading, stormwater management, wastewater treatment, remediation, waste management, and ecological restoration.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports, studies, and cost estimates to aid clients in evaluating options and providing effective solutions.
  • Oversee project management duties, including the development and execution of project scope, budget, schedule, quality, safety, and client expectations.
  • Supervise construction activities and prepare construction quality assurance (CQA) reports.
  • Deliver internal and external presentations.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients and regulatory bodies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in civil or environmental engineering.
  • Experience in overseeing construction projects and a solid understanding of construction methodologies is preferred.
  • Project management or assistant project management experience is advantageous.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary (approximately 10% travel).
  • Strong knowledge of standard civil engineering techniques and practices.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills are essential.
