Lead Teacher – Head Start
Job Level: 25 | Hourly Wage: Associate Degree - $16.31 | Bachelor Degree - $18.02
Work Schedule: 40 hours per week for 38 weeks annually
ROLE SUMMARY:
The Lead Teacher is accountable for ensuring a safe environment for children while fostering their physical, intellectual, social, and emotional development. This role involves building strong relationships with parents or guardians and collaborating with other classroom staff to enhance their professional growth through effective delegation and constructive feedback. The Lead Teacher will oversee daily educational activities in accordance with established policies, state regulations, and performance standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create a secure and nurturing learning atmosphere that encourages supervised exploration and supports children's development.
- Oversee classroom staff and volunteers, ensuring effective strategies, outcome documentation, lesson planning, and age-appropriate activities.
- Encourage educational and social-emotional growth through interaction and modeling, while recognizing each child's unique strengths.
- Support and implement the current curricula across various domains, including education, social skills, emotional well-being, prenatal care, and parenting.
- Foster positive relationships with families to promote their involvement in their child's educational journey.
- Incorporate nutrition and self-care practices into daily routines to help children develop healthy habits.
- Ensure all required documentation is completed timely, maintaining up-to-date records and effective communication with families and providers.
- Conduct educational and behavioral assessments for each child within designated timeframes, collaborating with families to connect them with appropriate resources.
- Maintain ongoing communication with staff, supervisors, parents, and service providers.
- Uphold confidentiality regarding all matters related to children, families, and staff in line with program standards.
- Embrace the program's mission by engaging in continuous professional development through training and workshops.
- Report any suspected cases of child abuse or neglect in accordance with mandated procedures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A minimum of an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field, with relevant experience and coursework as required by the Head Start Act or state certification. Candidates must achieve Teaching Strategies Gold Inter-rater Reliability Certification within six months of employment. Preferred candidates will have one to three years of experience working with young children. Effective communication skills (both written and verbal), the ability to create developmentally appropriate lesson plans, and a passion for engaging with young children are essential. Proficiency in word processing and data entry is required. Candidates must also maintain CPR and First Aid certification and possess reliable transportation. The ability to take initiative, exercise independent judgment, and foster teamwork is crucial for success in this role.
