The successful candidate will be responsible for inspecting and overseeing construction projects to ensure compliance with plans and specifications. This will involve conducting pile inspections, observing compacted fills, and inspecting utility installations, among other duties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct pile inspections and deep dynamic compaction process
- Observe compacted fills, including the use of nuclear density gauges
- Inspect utility installations, concrete testing, and rebar inspection
- Measure distances to verify accuracy of dimensions of structural installations and layouts
- Perform inspections of deep dynamic compaction process
- Observe and document utility installation
- Conduct routine geotechnical engineering laboratory checks
- Conduct concrete and rebar inspection testing
- Verify levels, alignment, and elevation of installations
- Observe work in progress to ensure compliance with specifications
- Prepare samples of materials for laboratory testing and perform the tests
- Examine workmanship of finished installations for conformity to standards
- Interpret blueprints and specifications for contractors and discuss deviations from specified construction procedures
- Record quantities of materials received or used during specified periods
- Maintain daily logs of construction and inspection activities and complete daily progress reports
- Prepare sketches of construction installations
- Participate in environmental audits and prepare data summaries, data tables, data mapping, and presentation, and preparation of environmental reports
- Follow blueprints, guidelines, and/or diagrams
- Responsible for the operation and maintenance of equipment
- Assist environmental engineers in the development of remediation devices
- Classify soils according to standard types
- Examine rocks, minerals, and fossil remains to identify and determine sequence of processes affecting development of earth
- Apply knowledge of chemistry, physics, biology, and mathematics to explain these phenomena and to help locate mineral, geothermal, and petroleum deposits and underground water resources
- Apply geological knowledge to engineering problems encountered in construction projects, such as dams, tunnels, and large buildings
- Prepare geologic reports and maps, interpret research data, and recommend further study or action
- Conduct or participate in environmental studies
- Direct drilling of exploratory borings and wells
- Oversee installation of monitoring wells in accordance with state and federal requirements
- Collect or supervise collection of soil and groundwater samples for analysis of chemical composition
- Determine direction of groundwater flow based on review of historical records and site-specific data
- Perform environmental soil sampling
- Prepare summary and certification letters and reports
- Conduct pile and deep foundation inspections
- Inspect ground improvement
- Observe borings, test pits, geoprobes, and cone penetrometer tests
- Conduct permeability testing and well monitoring
- Prepare project cost estimates, proposals, reports, and mentor junior staff
Requirements:
- Ability to review and understand plans, specs, and reports, including site, grading, utility, foundation, details, structural, drawings, architectural, grading, federal, state, and local regulations
- Preferred Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university; or one to four years related experience and/or training with a high school diploma or GED; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience with inspection of compacted fills, footings, ground improvement, deep foundations, retaining walls, utilities, asphalt, concrete, sitework elements
- 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification
- ACI/NICET/NJ DCA Special Inspector and Nuclear Densometer certification a plus
- Valid Driver's License and possess reliable transportation to access job sites
- Able to calculate figures and amounts, such as slopes, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
- Able to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
- Proficient or familiarity with AutoCAD, NitroPro, MS Word, Excel, Adobe
- Position requires ability to use tools such as a lump hammer, shovel, hand auger, Nuclear Density Gauge
Work Environment:

Approximately 100% of the work is conducted outdoors. The worker must be able to walk frequently on uneven hard and soft ground/terrain in all types of weather conditions to include cold, hot rain, snow, ice, etc. Employees working in the field may also be exposed to sun, wind, insects, plants, animals, etc. As a result, appropriate clothing for outdoor work, work boots, safety glasses, hard hat, safety vest is required while working in the field.
