Clinical Education Specialist

Key Responsibilities:
  • Implement theory-based professional practices to evaluate and promote best care plans for patients and their families.
  • Develop and maintain curriculum, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies.
  • Provide clinical leadership and education to nursing staff through ongoing clinical evaluation and mentorship.
  • Collaborate with nursing leadership to plan and predict education needs based on patient and nurse performance data.

Requirements:
  • BSN from an accredited school of nursing required.
  • Masters of Nursing preferred.
  • 3+ years' of acute care RN experience required.
  • NYS and NJS RN license and registration required.
  • AHA BLS certification required.

Clinical Education Specialist (CES) Ambulatory Surgery Centers

The Clinical Education Specialist is responsible for identifying ways to improve nursing performance, create consistent procedure guidelines throughout the Patient Care Services department, and integrate evidence-based practices to patient care.

The CES will be responsible for implementing theory-based professional practices evaluating and promoting best care plans for patients and their families.

The role will serve as a resource and mentor to nursing staff ensuring curriculum, policies, and procedures remain up to date and in compliance with regulatory agencies.

The CES will generate data-driven plans that take both quality and cost of care into account using appropriate research practices and methodologies to get accurate data and drive practical change to improve clinical practice.

The Clinical Education Specialist serves as a clinical resource for all levels of nursing staff. Provides both clinical leadership and education through ongoing clinical evaluation with the nursing staff.

Supplies analytical support to the nursing leadership to plan and predict education needs based upon patient and nurse performance data and direct observation of nursing practice.

The CES possesses mastery of clinical decision making, critical thinking, knowledge acquisition and dissemination, problem identification and identification of safety issues in practice.

The CES will provide clinical point of care support to the clinical staff.

The CES will work with the professional development team on programs such as orientation and onboarding, competency program, RN Residency and Fellowship programs.

The CES Understands the Magnet Program and integration of Magnet standards into the nursing department infrastructure. The CES supports the shared governance model. Maintains active engagement in council membership.

Partners with Patient Care Directors regarding clinical practice, staff communication, time utilization, change facilitation and staff assignments

Serves as a resource to Coordinate clinical activities to ensure the highest level of patient care, incorporating patient safety, interdisciplinary communication, patient satisfaction, and resource utilization

Active engagement, council membership and serves as co-chair on councils

Actively maintains clinical skills to serve as clinical support for the staff

Utilizes performance improvement model (Plan-Do-Study-Act) to improve patient outcomes

Collaborates with nursing leadership to ensure department goals and Magnet requirements are met

Serves as a Nurse Planner.

Utilizes American Nurses Credentialing Center Commission on Accreditation/ Continuing Education Approval Program (ANCC-COA) criteria to assess needs, plan, implement and evaluate continuing nursing education activities which qualify for continuing education credit.

Qualifications

Requirements

BSN from an accredited school of nursing required

Masters of Nursing

3+ years' of acute care RN experience required

NYS and NJS RN license and registration required

AHA BLS certification required

Certification preferred, required within 6 months of hire

Time Management required to have a presence in the Main building, and other sites.

Clinical experience in scrub and circulator role.

Understands pre and post clinical care.
