The Arora Group is seeking a skilled Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our team at the Orthopedic Clinic at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse - Orthopedic, you will provide medical care for Active Duty military heroes, their family members, and retirees. This is a full-time position with 4-10 hour shifts, Monday-Saturday, 7am and 7pm.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and administer prescribed medications according to established policies/procedures.
  • Recognize urgent or emergent patient care situations and initiate appropriate emergency interventions as directed.
  • Perform support duties for complex diagnostic tests and/or specialized practices or procedures.
  • Ensure patient care is carried out in accordance with the Standards of Nursing Care and the policies and procedures of the clinic.
  • Check patients into the clinic and triage using clinic guidelines.
  • Inform the nurse, physician extender or physician of the patient's condition and potential problems.
  • Obtain and document patient and pertinent family history.
  • Assist the physician in a variety of diagnostic examinations.
  • Perform a range of treatment procedures, including sterile dressing changes and administering medications.
  • Prepare patients for tests, examinations, treatments, and/or surgery.
  • Collect specimens and label them for laboratory examinations.
  • Alert provider to conditions which deviate from expected findings.
  • Prepare, start, monitor and discontinue intravenous fluids with accuracy and in accordance with established procedures.
  • Observe, report and document all observed symptoms, reactions, treatments and changes in the patient condition.
  • Perform routine nursing care activities, such as taking blood pressures and temperatures.
  • Operate basic equipment required in delivery of patient care.
  • Execute physician's orders within the guidelines of standard nursing practice.
  • Maintain records of nursing care, dose and time of medication administered.

Qualifications:

  • Possess a minimum of 1 year of full-time clinical experience working in an orthopedic or surgical setting within the last 2 years as a LPN/LVN.
  • Graduate from an accredited community college, junior college, college, university or vocational nursing program approved by the appropriate State agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted license (any state or U.S. Territory) to practice as an LPN or LVN.
  • U.S. Citizen (for access to Government computer systems).
  • BLS is required.
