We are seeking a highly skilled Laboratory Technician to join our team at the Sanitary District of Decatur. As a Laboratory Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the quality of our water treatment processes.
Key Responsibilities- Perform laboratory tests to determine the chemical, physical, and biological characteristics of water samples.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, including microscopes, centrifuges, and spectrophotometers.
- Run qualitative and quantitative analysis to determine the presence and content of various substances in water samples.
- Accurately record test procedures and results in laboratory logs and computer systems.
- Clean and sterilize laboratory equipment.
- Prepare chemical solutions according to standard formulae.
- Collect and deliver samples to the laboratory for testing.
- Perform field analyses, as required.
- An Associate's degree in chemistry, biology, or a related life science, and two years of experience in a laboratory environment.
- Ability to read and understand safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Mathematical skills to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions and deal with problems involving several concrete variables.
The Laboratory Technician will work in an environment typical of an activated sludge wastewater treatment facility laboratory, with incidental VOCs, temperature-controlled work environment, and vagrant odors.
