Job Description

This position is located within the Oklahoma Human Services department.

Oklahoma Human Services has a unique opportunity for a dedicated professional to join our team as a Child Welfare Specialist. As a key member of our Child Protective Services team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of children and families in our community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Investigate allegations of child abuse or neglect.
  • Protect the safety of children and provide services to help families overcome barriers that put their children at risk.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Preserve and strengthen protective capacities of parents to keep children safe in their own homes.
  • Provide placements for children that meet their medical, educational, and physical needs.
  • Return children to their homes as soon as possible and arrange a permanent plan when return is not possible.

Training and Development:

All new employees will complete the Child Welfare Core Academy Training Program, which includes:

  • Learning treatment and preventive services.
  • Visiting children in placement and conducting assessments of children and families.
  • Referring families and children to services in the community.
  • Participating in investigations of abuse and neglect of children and preparing case reports.
  • Attending court hearings and providing testimony.
  • Consulting with the District Attorney and other attorneys regarding efforts to protect children, reunite families, or arrange permanent plans.
  • Providing direct services to children in placement.

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A bachelor's degree in any field or one year of experience as a Child Welfare Specialist.
  • Valid driver's license and required car insurance.

Travel is extensive, and you must be willing to work on-call, extended, and/or weekend hours.
