Position Summary
The Materials Science Division at Nutanix is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional with a robust background in polymers and composites. This role focuses on the design, assembly, inspection, and mechanical testing of composite materials. As a Senior Materials Engineer, you will collaborate with a team of experts to advance our research and development initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead technical efforts in understanding the structure-property-performance relationships of resin materials.
- Conduct failure investigations requiring advanced mechanical testing of composite materials.
- Contribute to impactful research that supports ongoing projects in cloud infrastructure.
- Apply knowledge of materials science principles, including fatigue, creep, and thermal expansion, to solve complex engineering problems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and evaluate design criteria and specifications for hardware.
- Maintain expertise in experimental design, data analysis, and fabrication techniques.
- Engage with colleagues across departments to facilitate joint projects and share insights.
- Identify customer challenges and translate them into actionable tasks leveraging Nutanix's capabilities.
- Act as a principal investigator for research initiatives, including grant proposal writing and presenting findings to stakeholders.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, candidates should possess:
- A PhD in a relevant STEM field.
- A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in materials science, particularly in polymer characterization and composite fabrication.
- Experience in designing and executing mechanical testing protocols for polymers and composites.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently.
- Experience managing technical projects and leading cross-organizational teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Ideal candidates may also have:
- 12+ years of experience in composite fabrication.
- Experience supervising polymer synthesis for high-temperature applications.
- A current security clearance.
