Role Summary:
The Manufacturing Engineer serves as a crucial link between engineering and production operations, offering support and leadership in processes, production techniques, safety protocols, quality assurance, and Lean Manufacturing principles within a high-mix, low-volume custom manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement Lean Manufacturing strategies utilizing methodologies such as 6S, Visual Management, and Value Stream Mapping (VSM).
- Collaborate with the Engineering Manager as a technical authority to achieve business goals efficiently.
- Oversee projects in partnership with supply chain and manufacturing teams.
- Establish materials and manufacturing methods for new product lines.
- Evaluate existing materials and manufacturing processes to assess feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and operational efficiency.
- Employ CAD/CAM software for tool path programming of intricate custom components as necessary.
- Assist in the cost estimation of new products by coordinating with the Supply Chain department to identify suitable vendors for required materials.
- Work closely with design engineers to ensure designs are optimized for manufacturing.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing and Quality Assurance teams to uphold product quality standards.
- Provide cross-training to other employees as required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in manufacturing.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field is required.
- Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD is essential; SolidWorks experience is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, and product/process design.
- Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings with a thorough understanding of geometrical dimensioning and tolerancing.
- Experience in machine tool manufacturing is advantageous.
- Background in machining metals is highly desirable, with experience in castings being a plus.
- Familiarity with quality lab inspection tools such as optical comparators, micrometers, calipers, gage blocks, and bore gauges.
- Understanding of ERP systems, BOMs, and routers; experience with Epicor is a plus.
Skills and Competencies:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Self-motivated with demonstrated effective work methods, analytical and problem-solving abilities, and capacity to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
- Ability to earn the respect and trust of team members.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of working cross-functionally and externally as needed.
Work Environment:
This role involves working in both an office and manufacturing setting. Employees must be aware of potential hazards, including proximity to moving mechanical parts, vehicles, electrical currents, and exposure to high temperatures or chemicals.
Physical Requirements:
- Regularly required to stand, walk, lift, and push/pull objects weighing 10 lbs. or less.
- Occasionally required to bend, squat, kneel, lift, and push/pull objects weighing between 11 – 20 lbs.
- Constantly required to sit, speak, and manually manipulate items.
