We are seeking an experienced Linux HPC Systems engineer to join our team at MITRE. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly technical candidate seeking to be part of a collaborative team that leverages automation, artificial intelligence (AI), and advanced computing to deliver AI and HPC services to MITRE organization and its sponsors.

The HPC team is responsible for purchasing, deploying, and maintaining HPC hardware and user tools for over 800 MITRE employees. The HPC team engages with projects across MITRE to build and support computing environment for Artificial Intelligence, Data Analysis, Modeling and Simulation, and more.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing Linux systems administration support for MITRE's HPC systems to ensure the availability, performance, and security of systems.
  • Installing, configuring, testing, and maintaining operating systems, application software, and system management tools.
  • Delivering user support ranging from basic account management to applications support.
  • Leveraging and developing monitoring and accounting solutions that streamline administrative tasks and optimize system management.
  • Assisting the development and implementation of best practices, compliance standards, and security controls for all computing environments.
  • Participating in an environment that emphasizes trust, open communication, creative thinking, and cohesive team effort.
  • Working in an agile model, delivering assigned stories as part of development sprints.

Basic qualifications include:

  • A minimum of 5 years of related experience with a bachelor's degree; or 3 years and a master's degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
  • Linux systems administration experience (3+ years)
  • Software development experience in at least two of the following languages: C, C++, Perl, Python, Java, shell scripts
  • Proficiency in configuration management and automation tools such as Git, Ansible, or Chef
  • Hands on experience with basic computer networking and routing including troubleshooting basic internet protocols (DNS, DHCP, BOOTP, SMTP, S/FTP, HTTP/S, NFS, CIFS/SMB, PKI, TCP, UDP)
  • Experience performing advanced troubleshooting and system administration with Linux Servers
  • Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Only US citizens are eligible for security clearance. For this position, MITRE will consider only applicants with security clearances or applicants who are eligible for security clearances.
  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience in systems administration on distributed computing systems.
  • Familiarity with HPC-specific resources and technologies, such as GPUs, FPGAs, MPI, Infiniband
  • Experience with resource managers and schedulers for HPC clusters such as Slurm,
  • Experience with Docker, Singularity, or another container technology.
  • Experience with logging and monitoring tools such as Splunk.
  • Experience with configuration management systems such as Chef or Ansible
  • Candidates holding current / active US Government security clearance(s) are preferred.
  • Experience with security compliance standards such as NIST 800-171 or CMMC for HPC systems.
