Position Overview
The role of Metal Fabrication Specialist involves the operation and setup of various fabrication machinery, including but not limited to cold cut saws, band saws, drill presses, deburrers, grinders, and shears. The specialist is expected to effectively utilize these machines for cutting, grinding, and drilling tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret job orders and blueprints to determine specifications such as material type, stock size, and dimensions for cutting.
- Safely handle and transfer stock to the machinery, which may involve operating a forklift.
- Initiate machine operations and monitor performance closely.
- Measure completed work to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Adhere to established procedures for both preventative and scheduled maintenance of equipment.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment by following all safety protocols and regulations.
- Exhibit strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Fulfill any additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
At least three months of relevant experience in a fabrication or manufacturing environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience operating cold cut saws, band saws, drill presses, deburrers, grinders, and shears.
- Proficiency in using measuring instruments such as tape measures, height gauges, calipers, and micrometers.
- Familiarity with various hand tools, including pneumatic options.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints effectively.
Physical Requirements
- Capability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Must possess a sense of sound and balance.
- Dexterity in limbs and fingers is essential.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks such as twisting, turning, bending, climbing, pushing, and pulling.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 35 pounds; heavier items may require assistance or mechanical lifting devices.
- Willingness to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as steel-toe shoes and safety glasses.
Work Environment
This position entails working in both indoor and outdoor settings, where temperatures may fluctuate significantly. Regular exposure to vibrations and elevated noise levels is expected.
