Respiratory Care Specialist

Purpose and Scope
The Respiratory Care Professional will perform diagnostic, therapeutic, and monitoring procedures as directed and in accordance with federal, state, local, and departmental guidelines and regulations governing our facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct patient assessments within the recommended time frame and collaborate with patients to determine the course of physician-prescribed therapy.
- Identify, document, and educate patients on potential problems related to current respiratory therapy administration.
- Communicate pertinent patient information to physician offices, family members, patients, and other healthcare organizations.
- Provide equipment selection for treating patients in a safe, economical, and cost-conscious manner to achieve the most desirable results.
- Assist in developing educational respiratory programs for associates at Birchaven Village and Independence House.
- Collaborate with respiratory therapists from outside entities, such as NOME, and adhere to established protocols.
Requirements
- Licensed as a Respiratory Care Professional by the State of Ohio.
- RRT credentialed by the NBRC.
- Owns a vehicle for use during scheduled work and call hours.
- A valid driver's license is required; if not, one must be obtained within 30 days of residency in the state.
- Positive service-oriented interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
- Must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on their assigned unit or department.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in respiratory care is preferred.
- Knowledge of sick room supplies and ambulatory aids is preferred.
Physical Demands
This position requires a full range of body motions, including intermittent walking, lifting, bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting, and standing. The associate will be required to walk for up to one hour a day, sit for four to six hours a day, and stand for one hour a day. The individual must be able to lift twenty to fifty pounds and reach work above the shoulders. The individual must have good eye-hand coordination and fine finger dexterity for simple grasping tasks. The individual must have excellent verbal communication skills to perform daily tasks. The associate must have corrected vision and hearing in the normal range. The individual must be able to operate a motor vehicle for business travel and community involvement.
This position is classified 'at risk' for possible occupational exposure to blood-borne pathogens (HBV, HIV, etc.).
