Job Title: Registered Nurse I

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse I to join our School Health Services team in Frederick County Public Schools. As a Registered Nurse I, you will play a vital role in providing professional nursing services to our students and staff.

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse I will be responsible for providing nursing care to students and staff in our schools, as well as supervising and evaluating Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and Health Room Technicians (HRTs). You will also be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating health service programs for our schools.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide professional nursing services to students and staff in our schools
  • Supervise and evaluate LPNs and HRTs
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate health service programs for our schools
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, students, parents/guardians, and the general public
  • Participate in establishing policies and procedures for emergency care of student injuries/illnesses
  • Implement and interpret defined protocols and procedures, as well as programs for the prevention and control of communicable diseases
  • Investigate communicable diseases in the school setting
  • Provide comprehensive and appropriate health education for schools and communities as needed
Requirements:
  • Graduation from an accredited Nursing program with an Associate's or Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum 2 years of RN work experience (within the last 5 years) in public/community health nursing and/or school health nursing, primary care
  • Current Registered Nurse license through the Maryland State Board of Nursing (or current RN license from another compact state, with ability to obtain Maryland RN license following hire)
  • Current certification in CPR by a recognized certification body (e.g. American Red Cross, Heart Association, etc.) or ability to be so certified during the orientation process
Preferred Qualifications:
  • BSN degree or a related Master's degree
  • Current certification as a school nurse or a child/adolescent certification such as pediatric nursing, maternal child health nursing, etc
  • Related experience in a School Health Program
  • Completion of a RN Case Manager/Delegating nurse training course through Maryland State Board of Nursing
  • Work experience specifically in pediatric or medical surgical nursing
Working Conditions:

This position is subject to random drug testing. The employee is frequently walking, stooping, and driving; occasionally climbing, lifting between 20-50 pounds; and rarely pushing over 40 pounds. While working in this position, the employee is constantly working indoors; Potential exposure to infectious diseases; occasionally walking on uneven ground and required to wear protective equipment.

This position requires the ability to provide own transportation to area schools, meetings, home visits and other commitments. The employee must be available to respond on-call as essential personnel in the event of an emergency situation.
