Job Overview

Position Summary

The role of an Industrial Pipefitter (Sketcher) requires proficiency in sketching to produce piping designs on paper. Familiarity with transferring these drawings to Adobe software is advantageous but not mandatory. A minimum of five (5) years of experience in pipe fabrication is essential. The candidate must also possess the capability to assemble, layout, install, and maintain piping systems for steam, fluid, or gas applications. The pipe systems may encompass various components such as pipes, flanges, supports, valves, gauges, hangars, and angles. The Pipefitter (Sketcher) may operate in diverse environments, including construction or maintenance sites, both indoors and outdoors, such as within tanks or boilers. Responsibilities may extend to working in underground areas and at heights up to 300 feet.

Key Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as an Industrial Pipefitter with sketching capabilities.
  • Proficient in reading blueprints and demonstrating comprehensive knowledge of pipefitting techniques.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience in industrial construction projects is required.
Core Responsibilities
  • Visualize piping layouts and create corresponding sketches.
  • Interpret blueprints and specifications to ascertain the scope of work, including material locations, quantities, and sizes.
  • Identify necessary tools for assigned tasks.
  • Recognize safety hazards and implement measures to mitigate risks.
  • Prepare, fabricate, install, and fit pipes according to specifications.
  • Install valves, hangars, supports, and flanges within piping systems in accordance with plans and specifications.
  • Conduct tests to verify the integrity of pipes and piping systems.
  • Utilize rigging equipment to hoist loads safely.
Reporting Structure
  • This position does not have direct reports but will collaborate closely with and occasionally oversee helpers and laborers, providing positional authority in these roles.
Essential Requirements
  • Proven experience in industrial construction and maintenance.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and technical manuals.
  • Knowledge of pipefitting processes for industrial piping and boiler components.
  • 5+ years of experience in sketching and pipefitting.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and manual dexterity.
  • Effective reading comprehension and teamwork abilities.
  • Capability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication skills with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Commitment to safety regulations and company values.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous employment with Zachry.
  • NCCER Certification as an Industrial Pipe Fitter.
  • Formal technical education.
Physical Demands
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, squat, and lift regularly.
  • Effective communication skills are necessary.
  • Good manual dexterity is required for precision tasks.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move items weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Willingness to work at heights and in various weather conditions.
  • Compliance with personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements is mandatory.
