Job Title: KSB/KSD Instructional Assistant

Join the Kentucky School for the Blind (KSB) team as an Instructional Assistant, where you will play a vital role in empowering students who are blind and visually impaired to command their future.

About the Role:

As an Instructional Assistant, you will work under the direction of a teacher or houseparent to assist students in completing daily living skills, classroom assignments, and preparing materials. You will also assist with transporting students to various places and activities.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist teachers in the classroom with instructional activities and lessons, and tutor individual students following teacher instructions.
  • Prepare materials for classrooms, such as braille, large print, bulletin boards, and student progress reports.
  • Assist students to various activities and places in the building and on campus.
Preferred Skills:
  • American Sign Language (ASL) proficient
Requirements:
  • High School graduate
  • Two (2) years of experience working within a school or classroom environment
  • Additional education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis
Working Conditions:

Work is typically performed in an office or classroom setting assisting teachers and assisting students who are hearing impaired and/or vision impaired.

Probationary Period:

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS
