About the Role

This Mechanical Engineering Project Specialist position at Mid-State Industrial Maintenance offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a dynamic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting machine shop operations and ensuring that Shop Supervisors and machinists have the necessary resources to complete projects efficiently.

Job Summary

The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure the timely completion of projects within budget, working closely with the design engineering team to accomplish the requested scope of work. This involves reviewing blueprints, technical drawings, and computer-generated reports, as well as collaborating with drafters to develop structural designs using drafting tools or CAD software.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design Development: Assist in developing product designs by interpreting blueprints and technical drawings, utilizing drafting tools or computer-assisted drafting equipment or software.
  • Project Coordination: Ensure the smooth operation of machine shop activities by providing materials, equipment, and information necessary for project completion.
  • Estimation and Costing: Estimate costs for engineering, construction, or extraction projects by analyzing labor, material, and time requirements.
  • Bid Preparation: Prepare bids for projects, combining numerical data and descriptive information into clear, concise proposals.
  • Vendor Management: Submit requests for quotes to vendors and present prepared estimates.
Requirements

To be considered for this position, applicants must possess a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and 1 year of experience in the field. Preferred qualifications include knowledge of rotating equipment and elements, with 3-5 years of experience in a fast-paced equipment repair/machine/fabrication setting.

Skills and Qualifications:
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Penta, as well as CAD software.
  • Personal Qualities: Strong attention to detail, organized approach, and ability to communicate effectively.
Work Environment:

The successful candidate will work in a processing environment indoors, where occasional exposure to loud, dusty, hot, or cold conditions may occur. Must be willing to work nights and overtime when necessary.

Physical Requirements:

This role requires sitting for extended periods, occasional walking distances to tour facilities, and lifting up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities are also necessary, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
