The Systems and Operations Assurance Department (SOAD) serves as the cornerstone of expertise in Operations and Facilities Engineering, Product and Process Assurance, Quality Assurance (QA), and Manufacturing Engineering for our corporate clientele. SOAD provides a spectrum of technical capabilities that support our clients in ensuring the availability, readiness, and success of ground assets and services necessary to fulfill the requirements of national security and commercial space enterprises.

We are seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer (Project Leader - Systems Engineer) to become a vital member of our high-performing team, addressing some of the most pressing Facilities and Infrastructure challenges and enhancing our capabilities to meet future technical demands. This role necessitates an innovative and decisive individual who thrives in a collaborative, team-oriented environment, capable of establishing goals and effectively executing them. We are looking for experienced professionals adept at working within multidisciplinary project teams, proficient in all phases of Facility-related project design and management throughout the Facility lifecycle, including requirements/concept design development, construction, and operations & maintenance/sustainment phases.

Work Model:

This position operates in a Hybrid model, requiring 4 days on-site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Exhibit self-motivation and the ability to work independently, taking overall responsibility for project engineering and administrative duties related to each project.
  • Utilize and/or develop advanced analytical methodologies to assess civil/structural systems and enhance overall systems performance.
  • Interpret third-party geotechnical assessments and apply findings to validate and optimize complex foundation and soil support systems.
  • Independently conduct detailed analysis, design, and evaluation of intricate civil/structural facilities and their foundation systems.
  • Originate and validate complex civil/structural engineering deliverables, including calculations, specifications, material requisitions, cost estimates, and facility design criteria.
  • Deliver independent, data-driven technical reports and recommendations to management and clients through effective verbal and written communication.
  • Review and provide Engineering Review Comments on technical documents from third-party designers, engineering disciplines, procurement, and construction contractors.
  • Employ a rigorous and systematic approach to problem-solving and identifying root causes of facility system failures and issues encountered during construction.
  • Assist in constructability reviews.
  • Support construction efforts by addressing field change requests and nonconformance reports, performing construction observations, reviewing construction submissions, and witnessing/evaluating field testing as required.
  • Lead and/or engage in technical discussions with clients, suppliers, construction contractors, etc.
  • Act as a mentor or coach for early-career engineers and designers.
  • Travel to client and/or government facilities while representing the company and department professionally.

Qualifications for Success

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in civil engineering, structural engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in civil/structural engineering design and construction for buildings, transportation, and infrastructure structures.
  • Current Registered Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of engineering deliverables, including construction documents and material requisitions, as well as construction methods for industrial infrastructure and their foundation systems.
  • Self-starter with proficient time management skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver results within established timelines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills complemented by excellent written and oral communication abilities.
  • Working knowledge of current commercial building codes and regulations (e.g., IBC, NFPA, AASHTO, ASTM, AISC, ACI, ASCE, etc.).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or similar computer-aided drafting software.
  • Proficiency in civil/structural analytical software (SAP2000, STAAS, RISA, PCASE, etc.).
  • Proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Project, and Visio.
  • Willingness and ability to travel (domestic/international).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain TS/SCI clearance issued by the U.S. government; U.S. citizenship is required for security clearance eligibility.

Preferred Qualifications

It would be advantageous if you possess one or more of the following:

  • Master's degree in civil engineering, structural engineering, or an advanced degree in a related engineering field.
  • Proficiency in Mathcad, MATLAB, or similar software.
  • Experience in Value Engineering, Constructability Reviews, Safety Reviews, and O&M Reviews.
  • Demonstrated experience in flexible and rigid paving design to accommodate heavy vehicle wheel loadings (AASHTO).
  • Familiarity with U.S. defense industry facility acquisition and operational practices.
  • Knowledge of U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Unified Facility Criteria (UFC) documents.
  • Experience in geotechnical and structural design for Nuclear Quality and Safety environments.
  • Experience with the design, construction, operations, and maintenance of federal, military, and/or space launch base facilities and their associated infrastructures.
  • Experience in civil/structural design and construction of complex, large-scale underground facilities.
  • Field construction experience.
  • Experience in preparing structural/forensic engineering investigations, studies, and reports.
  • Current TS/SCI security clearance issued by the U.S. government; U.S. citizenship is required for security clearance eligibility.
