Mechanical Design Engineer for Automated Test Equipment

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Manufacturing Test Engineering group at Tesla. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing and developing automated test equipment for our power electronic components in vehicle, stationary storage, humanoid robot, and charging products.
Responsibilities:- Design and develop automated test equipment, including detailed-level CAD models, pneumatic diagrams, and verification using structural and thermal FEA and CFD
- Conceptualize equipment development, balancing product specifications, process requirements, layout complexity, cost, and lead-time limits
- Identify opportunities and implement performance, robustness, and ease of assembly improvements
- Analyze system constraints and propose innovative solutions
- Support building, debugging, validation, and equipment duplication efforts, and fine-tune equipment for release to production
- Conduct detailed testing and validation of installed machinery to ensure robustness and quality
- Perform on-site and off-site acceptance testing (SAT/FAT) of test equipment
- 2+ years of experience as a Mechanical/Mechatronics/Automation Engineer with a focus on automation, machine design, robotics, and product development
- Experience transitioning products and processes from prototype to production
- Knowledge in solid mechanics, pneumatics, hydraulics, dynamics, material selection, prototyping, testing methods, everyday machining, and fabrication processes
- Exposure to sensors, microcontrollers, robots, relays
- Strong teamwork skills with a proven ability to interact and collaborate effectively with other engineering disciplines
- Versed in SolidWorks, PDM, and Ansys, or similar CAD/CAE software
- Experience on student engineering teams and organizations such as BAJA or Formula SAE, or similar, is a plus
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally
