Job Summary

We are seeking a Senior Accountant to lead our governmental fiscal management team. The successful candidate will have a strong background in accounting and auditing principles, with experience in supervising and directing accounting functions.

About the Role

The Senior Accountant will be responsible for planning, organizing, directing, controlling, and/or supervising assigned accounting and financial functions, programs, and systems as a department's lead fiscal position. This includes annual risk assessment and review and approval of fiscal transactions in the accounting system.

This role also involves supervising assigned fiscal and/or clerical employees and preparing employee performance reviews. The successful candidate will follow countywide fiscal related policies and procedures, develop and implement internal departmental accounting procedures, evaluate their effectiveness, and make changes as necessary to ensure proper risk management strategies.

The Senior Accountant will manage accounting and budget functions within a department or a program/functional area within a large department. Responsibilities include preparing complex journal entries; reconciliations of general ledger transactions to the applicable sub-ledger; processes and reconciles accounts receivable and payables; reconciles and submits billing information and resolves complex expenditure issues.

The successful candidate will meet with Department Director and management staff to discuss financial position, service, and project costing, evaluate the fiscal impact of operational initiatives, and coordinates activities with other departments to ensure adequate flow of pertinent information.

This role also requires reviewing and approving routine accounting entries, preparing complex analyses and reports to support current and new operational initiatives; evaluates operating initiatives and environmental factors on costs of services; and assists with the development of operational efficiency measures.

The Senior Accountant will provide guidance and assistance to department staff on a broad variety of fiscal/budget topics. Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial and status reports for management, including customized Business Intelligence (BI) reports, budget versus actual reports, projections, variance analysis, cost recovery reports, rate studies, and statistical information is also a key responsibility.

Requirements

The successful candidate must possess a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, and four (4) years of experience as a professional accountant. Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education (not less than possession of a high school diploma/GED), training, and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted above.

Salary Information

The estimated salary for this role is between $61,339.20 and $87,360.00 annually, based on experience and qualifications.
