About the Role

New York University, Division of Libraries, seeks a seasoned professional to lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive discovery strategy for its vast collections. As a key member of the Libraries' Senior Leadership team, this individual will be responsible for enhancing the discovery and use of NYU Libraries' collections and collection-based services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and champion a user-centered approach to collections access, leveraging data-driven insights to inform strategic decisions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement innovative discovery services, ensuring seamless user experiences.
  • Analyze and evaluate the Libraries' discovery services, identifying areas for improvement and opportunities for growth.
  • Communicate technical specifications and functional requirements to stakeholders, fostering productive working relationships.
  • Stay informed on emerging trends and best practices in library discovery, applying knowledge to drive strategic initiatives.

The Division of Libraries serves the NYU community, providing access to over 5 million volumes and supporting the university's global network. As a member of the Association of Research Libraries, the OCLC Research Library Partnership, and the HathiTrust, the Libraries participate in various consortia and collaborate closely with Columbia University Libraries and the New York Public Library.

Requirements
  • Master's degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution or a recognized foreign equivalent.
  • Experience in discovery services, user experience, systems administration, project management, technical services, or collection management.
  • Demonstrated expertise in library discovery and search, with a strong understanding of user needs and stakeholder expectations.
  • Ability to build and maintain productive working relationships with cross-functional teams.
